Introducing Layer Global

We are launching Layer Global to invest in and be the most important partner to the world’s highest-quality, most innovative, and fastest-growing companies.

Over three decades investing in technology companies, I have worked alongside incredibly talented founders through multiple cycles — the internet, mobile, social, and cloud — each of which reshaped how companies are built and scaled.

Today, another major shift is underway: AI is defining an innovation and disruption ‘super cycle.’ Leading AI companies are experiencing the steepest ascent of any cycle I have seen, reaching scale faster and encountering critical inflection points far earlier in their lifecycles. AI will impact every industry, moving through each at different speeds and depths. I believe the ‘winners’ of the next 10+ years will scale quicker, be bigger, and create value far earlier than in past cycles.

As a result, founders are being forced to make harder decisions sooner, with less margin for error and far more at stake.

In this environment, capital alone is no longer enough. Today’s founders don’t need another passive investor. They need active partners who can help them navigate fast-moving markets, recruit talent, reach new customers, and offer experience and judgment at critical moments.

At General Atlantic, I had the privilege of partnering with the founders of many category-defining, global technology companies, including Airbnb, Alibaba, ByteDance, CrowdStrike, Facebook, Mercado Libre, Slack, Snapchat, Squarespace, Uber, and many others. I joined GA in 1998 as an Associate and was honored to most recently serve as Co-President of the firm. I am deeply grateful for the partners, colleagues, and friendships formed over three decades at the firm. To my General Atlantic family, thank you.

Layer Global is the next chapter of my career — a natural evolution shaped by the experiences and lessons that came before. We are an investment firm founded to be the most important partner to the world’s highest-quality, most innovative, and fastest-growing companies. Our world-class team, including several of my former General Atlantic colleagues, will work to make concentrated investments in the fastest-growing companies around the world.

We are building Layer Global for this era of transformation. As companies scale faster and reach inflection points earlier, underwriting discipline becomes more important, not less. I expect to build on my experience, leveraging analytical rigor and pattern recognition to distinguish between early momentum and long-term, durable growth. Our focus will be on the highest-quality businesses with world-class founders building products customers love, structural advantages, multiple ways to win, recurring revenue, and large end markets. We want to partner with companies that seek to and will change the world.

These generational companies are built layer by layer. We don’t invest or participate at a single stage or point in time. We seek to partner deeply at every layer of a company, earning the right to press our winners and concentrate capital in these great growth companies.

We are building Layer Global alongside a small group of long-term, like-minded LPs who share our strategic orientation and our belief in growth, concentration, and partnership.
